Described as hard-hitting country with southern rock riffs and a hip-hop delivery, Hillbilly Rockstar, represents more of who front man Jeff McCool is today than any of the previous Moccasin Creek albums. The songs are stories arranged much like chapters in a book, allowing the album to tell a bigger story. The album was produced by Jeff McCool, Eddie Robinson ( ER) , Wes Breit ( Wes Nyle ) , Durwood Black and Ralph ” Mr Sneed” Hollandsworth.
Beginning with the thumping title track and hit video, “Hillbilly Rockstar,” Moccasin Creek delivers great new music. “Thousand Mile Paycheck” chronicles what it’s like to drive 1,000 miles just to earn a paycheck, and the fun and upbeat, “Lawn Chairs and Cheap Cigars” sings about a lifestyle that Moccasin Creek and their fans embrace. Colt Ford is featured on the hopeful “Live, Love, Laugh,” and the band’s patriotic side shows on “Old Glory.”
“There’s a lot more real life to this record,” proclaimed McCool. “It’s the first time I got to pour it out and be sincere about a lot of things.” The album has a broader spectrum of content that impacts a wider audience. The new album captures his life for what it is — “a work in progress.”
