This month is shaping up to be a very exciting one for Halifax’s In-Flight Safety. The group just dropped their new single Animals to radio, signed to US label Ooh La La Records and found out that their Short Film/EPK about Conversationalist was accepted into the 34th Atlantic Film Festival this September. Their upcoming album, Conversationalist will be out on September 9th via Night Danger in partnership with Fontana North in Canada. Check out the new lyric video for Animals that premiered this morning on Gigwise. The video captures the beautiful Nova Scotia landscape and the lyrics perfectly showcase the ups and downs of friendship. In the coming weeks the band will finish shooting a music video and prepping for their upcoming tour. Set to kick off in Charlottetown, PE on September 5th, they will hit up shows in the Maritimes, Ontario and Quebec before heading over to Europe. Canadian fans will receive the new single, Animals, for free when they pre-order Conversationalist now on iTunes.
In-Flight Safety have created an album that is true to their history, but is their most adventurous and honest yet. The album is also set for release in the UK on September 22nd with Conehead and then in the US on October 14th with Ooh La La Records. “Our friends at House of Hassle invited me to check out In-Flight Safety with them at SXSW this year, “ says Theo Aronson (Founder, Ooh La La Records). “After seeing the band live, they sent me the record and I was impressed with both the songs and production. ‘Caution Horses’ has always been a personal favorite, but the anthemic quality of ‘Animals’ and ‘Destroy’ convinced me that this is a band the world and radio need to hear.”
The ten tracks on Conversationalist have the guitar hooks that will get stuck in your head and make you want to dance all night, but the imagery is more mysterious. Mixed by Gus van Go (The Stills, Hollerado) in Brooklyn, NY, Conversationalist is a study of beauty in opposites, and this record is both pragmatic and ethereal – it builds and burns, leaving you wanting more. It’s a love letter and a breakup in one album.
The Juno and Much Music Video Award nominated group has heard their music in an incredible collection of TV series such as The Office, Chuck, Vampire Diaries, Degrassi TNG, Rookie Blue, among many others. Their new track Animals was recently featured in a Telus promo ad campaign. The group has performed at many festivals such as SXSW in Austin, TX, Great Escape in Brighton, UK, CMJ in New York City and Liverpool Sound City in Liverpool, UK.
