The first single, “Highway Lights,” taken from my upcoming album, We Could Be (out February 25th), is a reminder to take life’s challenges and struggles in stride, and to stay true to the course.
Seth found inspiration for the song while talking with a friend whose passion is surfing and traveling the world. With their love for touring and playing music, they share a fairly transient personality type.
The two discussed how burning out can be inevitable when you are stretching your capacities and living outside of your comfort zone. The two of them agreed that it is important to take a break and return to stability now and then in order to refocus and recharge before they get out and push ourselves again.
“Highway Lights” and the rest of “We Could Be” was recorded with Eamon McGrath as producer in his Toronto living room. A lot of their friends joined them to play on the record, and really enjoyed the DIY approach we took to its recording. With “Highway Lights,” it really captured the energy of the song, which was very important across the entire album.
“Highway Lights” acknowledges that sometimes things get difficult, but it doesn’t mean that you have to stop.
Sometimes you just need to step away for a moment and come back even stronger.
