Winnipeg’s Sc Mira take puppetry to a whole new level in their sexy video for Do Me. The band premiered the video yesterday on Exclaim.ca, with the site calling it “a charming accompaniment to the infectious indie pop tune.” The new single is from their forthcoming debut record, Waiting Room Baby, out on June 9th with Pipe & Hat/MapleMusic Recordings. The record is available for pre-order on Pledgemusic, along with a vinyl release that will include a bonus live side. They have also announced North American tour dates, kicking things off at home in Winnipeg on June 11th at the West End Cultural Centre with stops in Toronto for NXNE, New York City, Milwaukee SummerFest and Vancouver. Tour details are listed below.
Wearing finger puppets in the forms of Taylor Swift, Miley, Kimye, and others, Sc Mira playfully re-create some fine moments from recent music videos, while also donning their own personal puppets in the video for Do Me. The band teamed up with Sean and Christian Proctor (Proctor Bros. Industries), who directed, filmed and edited the video. “We approached the Procter Brothers with open minds. We wanted puppets and sex, and we wanted to point out the absurdity of our lyrics,” says frontwoman Sadye Cage. “The idea was to see the videos that are reenacted from a different perspective and really appreciate the awkwardness. Like watching a finger puppet spray whipped cream on itself. That’s sexy.”
The band recently added a new member, Caro LaFlamme, on keys. She joins the group alongside Sadye Cage (vox, guitar), Ty Vega (guitar), Jed Desilets (drums) and Mario Lagassé (bass). Sc Mira’s musical tapestry is a seamless weaving of folk, alt-country, rock, and indie pop. Vega and Cage travelled to Montreal in 2014 to work with acclaimed producer and engineer Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Basia Bulat). Originally recorded in an old bank vault in downtown Winnipeg, the six tracks would benefit from Bilerman’s co-production at his hotel2tango studio. The overall product on the record is sweet but haunting, bold but brittle, injected with energy and rise, fervor and ferocity.
Sc Mira continue to draw accolades and attention through their energetic and electric live performances. This has yielded impressive showings at NXNE and the Mile of Music Festival, where Sadye and Ty were joined by Jimmy Chamberlin (Smashing Pumpkins), who quickly became a fan. They’ve performed to thousands at Winnipeg’s MTS Centre and toured extensively, supporting Buck 65.
With a fresh take on fiery folk rock – dark, dazzling, eerie, elegant – Sc Mira is a shot of adrenaline, straight to the heart!
