ZAAC PICK To Release Debut Full-Length Album + Tour

Zaac-Pick---Constellations---Album-Cover-Artwork---1Zaac Pick has a way with time. A way of slowing it down to reveal the space that connects and divides us; and of urging it on to shrink that space. Generous, slippery, capricious, kind – time is a theme that courses through each song on the Vancouver-based singer-songwriter’s debut full-length album, Constellations. Out on April 14th, the album is a collection of nine heartfelt folk-pop songs. Check out the album trailer for a taste of what is to come on the new record. Zaac will also be on tour through April and May, sharing the new songs with audiences across Canada (dates below with more to be announced soon).

Co-produced by Jonathan Anderson (Aidan Knight, Jordan Klassen), Constellations was recorded over nearly two years, and across four provinces (with band members spread out between Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal). It means each track had room to ripen into something Zaac says would likely never have emerged in a condensed studio session. It also means the songs have a breadth of sound that’s distinct from previous albums. Zaac has played with the same band for four years, but this is the first time the entire band played a role in shaping the sound and direction of the songs. It was a process of experimentation – letting each band member sit with the tracks, and seeing what would emerge. The only rules, says Zaac, were: “Let’s not be too precious about ideas. The most interesting sound wins.”

Constellations also confirms Zaac as a lyric sage; one who spins tales from hope and regret. Expertly paced and gracefully nuanced, it examines the interconnected people in our lives and the mysterious gravity that draws us together and pulls us apart. While his previous recordings drew on time in retrospect, Constellations is a deliberate step away from nostalgia. In Zaac’s own words:“There’s this fascination with things feeling timeless, but a lot of my favorite records are reflections of the time they were made.”

Zaac’s brand of folk-pop earned acclaim after the release of his first solo EP, Fierce Wind, in 2009. The album’s elegantly layered tracks gained him a reputation for compelling lyrics and haunting melodies. His sophomore EP, Whitewater (2011), came with autumnal maturity bred through two years of steady writing and touring. Along the way he earned a West Coast Music Award nomination for Best Solo Roots Recording, shared stages with acts like Grammy-Award winning duo the Civil Wars, Bahamas and Noah Gundersen, and secured placements on primetime TV shows including Rookie Blue, Saving Hope, Bitten and One Tree Hill.
