James Vincent McMorrow has premiered a brand new song, “You Know”, the latest piece of new material following critically-acclaimed second record Post Tropical. Both ethereal and warm, soulful but still, “You Know” is a tribute to McMorrow’s life-long love of classic hip-hop and R&B, which can be felt across early singles “Cavalier” and “Gold”, and contributes to the general reinvention of Post Tropical.
McMorrow has also confirmed the release of a deluxe version of Post Tropical, which will be available digitally on November 11 via Dine Alone Records in Canada. The deluxe version will include the full standard album, plus previously unreleased material, remixes and solo tracks. For the complete track listing, see below.
Since Post Tropical’s release in early 2014, the album has received widespread acclaim, including being named Album Of The Week at BBC Radio 1 and 6Music, being voted an album of the year by readers of The Guardian, and has seen a sold-out European tour. Post Tropical follows James Vincent McMorrow’s platinum-selling debut album, Early in the Morning – which also reached number 1 in Ireland, picked up a Choice Music Prize nomination, and led to breakout hit “Higher Love”. McMorrow’s sophomore release was recorded in just three weeks on a pecan farm half a mile from the Mexican border (which the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beach House and Animal Collective have all called home). James recently uploaded some new works-in-progress (notably the Hype-Machine-topping “When I Leave”), suggesting that – whatever Post Tropical actually is – there might just be more on the way.
Following slots at Latitude, Coachella and Sydney Opera House (which he sold out twice), McMorrow will headline Shepherds Bush Empire in London, UK on October 5 as part of an extensive European and US run of dates heading into the end of this year.
