HighTension-DeathBeatRecorded in the depths of winter at Melbourne’s Studios in the City with Tom Larkin (King Cannons, Young & Restless, Shihad), High Tension’s debut album Death Beat is brash, brutal and a little bit sexy. From start to finish Death Beat grasps onto your ears and demands your attention. Lead vocalist Karina Utomo’s imposing presence and banshee scream, anchored by the slicing riffage of Ash Pegram’s guitar and the throbbing rhythm section, is truly something to behold.

High Tension is comprised of fiery lead vocalist Karina Utomo (Young & Restless), guitarist Ash Pegram (Young & Restless), bassist Matt Weston (The Nation Blue) and drummer Damian Coward (Love Like Electrocution’s). In early 2013, the band unleashed a music video for their debut single “High Risk, High Rewards”. The video furiously peddled its way around social media, with the speed of a Lolcats meme circa 2010. The riffage was demonic, demanding and incredibly hooky. Karina’s vocals were gloriously guttural, “like a circular saw made out of inverted crosses” (Hysteria Magazine). “High Risk, High Rewards” demanded respect and an instant Triple J add.
