Heavy MTL, and metal in general, maybe at a crossroads, but that didn’t seem to dampen the spirits of the forty thousand metal-heads that descended onto Parc Jean Drapeau for the 6th edition of the festival this past weekend. With a lineup that incorporated the old-guard of metal with a plethora of young, metal-core bands, there was definitely a line drawn into the sand, which luckily never evolved into a full-blown battle. Heavy MTL was perfectly balanced with incredible headliners who are loved by almost any metal lover. Just coming back from Mayhem Festival I had crossed off the headliners for the review, which in the end I was very happy about. Many of the “openers” were my highlights either way. Tons of great talent, well known to bands that are waiting to be discovered.
